Design and Experimental Analyses of Hybrid Piston Rods Used in Hydraulic Cylinders under Axial Load

Composite hydraulic cylinders are used to reduce the weight of construction equipment such as aerial work platforms or excavators. The is compensated by manufacturing from Carbon Fiber Reinsforced Plastic (CFRP), but this expensive. Therefore, study investigated a hybrid cylinder, which combination CFRP and steel, considering both performance cost. conventional cylinder rods made can prevent failure due buckling under push load (Push) alternating push–pull (Push–Pull) pull only. In paper, we discuss how threshold for these two mechanisms be increased making piston rod material. order develop lightweight that meets strength requirements original steel rod, substitute, has significant against compressive loading and, most importantly, lighter than steel. substitution done either replacing completely with reducing volume sheathing it CFRP. Numerical experimental studies carried out understand behavior when they replaced different combinations composite materials given load. For study, designs various design parameters were considered, their respective was discussed. effect loads on wrapped parts function fiber orientation, stacking angle number layers using experiments. demonstrated usefulness steel-CFRP composites influence in cylinders.
